CBS and Yahoo Working on Rebranding 'The Insider' B&C
When the “Entertainment Tonight” spinoff “The Insider” relaunches in January, it may be hard to recognize. CBS TV Distribution and Yahoo are collaborating to rebrand the syndicated newsmag, which is set to become “omg! NOW” -- the name of a popular Yahoo online vertical, B&C reports.
Assuming the deal is finished soon, as is expected, the changes -- which will include a new look for the show -- are set for the January relaunch.
“Multiple sources also said that newsmagazine and talk show veteran Brad Bessey is in talks to return to CBS as showrunner of the revamped daily show,” the report adds. “Bessey's credits include launching CBS's ‘The Talk’ as well as a 15-year run at industry standard ‘ET,’ where he served as co-EP under Linda Bell Blue, as well as a senior consultant on the show he is about to re-create, ‘The Insider.’ Blue maintains an EP credit on the new show as well.”
“The Insider,” hosted by Kevin Frazier and Brooke Anderson, is in its ninth season. Frazier and Anderson are likely to remain with the show, the story notes.
CBS shopped the idea of a co-branded update on the show before settling on Yahoo as a partner, the report says.
“An announcement could happen as soon as this week, but may have been pushed back by the news Tuesday that CTD chief John Nogawski was relieved of his duties by the company,” the report notes.
