Gannett Issues Ultimatum Over Dish's AutoHop Reuters

Dish Network will be dumped by the broadcasting division of Gannett if the satellite-television provider doesn't block its AutoHop commercial-skipping feature on DVRs or pay huge penalties, reports Reuters.

Dish subscribers in 19 cities including Washington, D.C., and Atlanta could lose ABC-, CBS- and NBC-affiliated stations, the story says.

"Gannett's demands translate into more than a 300 percent rate increase, which would likely result in higher monthly fees for consumers," Dish said in a statement.

Gannett could let its current contract expire at midnight, Oct. 7, the story notes. Gannett said it will continue to negotiate with Dish until that date, and added that an agreement is possible.
