The pattern for fall 2012 continues to take shape in the hotly contested ratings fight among syndicated talk shows — and with most shows now having unveiled their fall premieres, the early leader in the key demo of women 25-54 is NBCUniversal’s “Maury.”

For the week of Sept. 17, the veteran talker delivered a 1.7 average rating in women 25-54, up from a 1.4 a year ago. That edged “Dr. Phil’s” 1.6 — even with a year ago — and topped “Ellen” and “Live with Kelly & Michael,” tied at 1.5. “Dr. Oz” kept pace with a 1.4, but that was off from a 1.7 a year earlier. “Ellen” was even with a year ago, while “Kelly” was up one-tenth of a ratings point.

The top veterans outperformed the crowded field of rookies for the week, with “Katie” at the head of that pack with a 1.0 in women 25-54.

In households, “Dr. Phil” led the field with a 3.1 average rating for the week, followed by “Live with Kelly and Michael” with a 2.6, “Ellen” with a 2.4 and “Maury” and “Dr. Oz” tied for fourth with 2.3 averages. “Katie” led the rookies with a 1.8.
