NBC has postponed the scheduled season premieres for two series, Deadline.com reports. The network had planned to roll out the new seasons of comedies "Community" and "Whitney" Oct. 19, but will now air repeat programming in the 8 p.m. time period instead, the story reports.

The decision comes after NBC tapped Jeff Bader as its new head in scheduling, as we reported in August. Some insiders had already expressed skepticism about scheduling two comedies on low-trafficked Friday nights, the story notes.

In its announcement, NBC hints that the shows might be rescheduled for a more popular evening as replacements if needed, the story notes. The network credits its early-season success, indicating it will focus its promotional efforts on new programs airing Monday through Wednesday.

"Without having to launch these comedies on Friday at this time, we can keep our promotion focused on earlier in the week — plus we will have both comedies in our back pocket if we need to make any schedule changes on those nights," NBC said in its announcement.
