Pay-Television Operators Seeing Zero Growth NY Post

Pay-television operators such as cable companies and satellite operators are in a zero-growth business, with many reporting a slowdown in subscriber growth during the third quarter, reports the New York Post.

The slowdown is a result of some households deciding to go without pay television and to seek TV programming through other sources, the piece notes. Measured by number of customers, the pay-TV industry was flat compared with a year earlier.

When compared with a pickup in housing formation, the statistics mean that “pay TV penetration of America’s households is therefore falling, even while the number of pay TV subscribers is still inching higher,” according to Bernstein Research analyst Craig Moffett.
