Report: Authorities Skeptical About Claims by Mother of ‘Modern Family’ Star in Abuse Case

Authorities are said to be skeptical about claims from the mother of "Modern Family" star Ariel Winter, 14, that she was trying to protect her daughter from a relationship with an 18-year-old man, reports TMZ.com.

As previously reported, Winter was removed from her home by a judge after allegations of abuse by her mother.

Law enforcement is skeptical because her mother, Chrystal Workman, allegedly didn’t mention anything about the relationship until after she lost custody on Oct. 3, although she claims the relationship had been going on since the summer, the story adds.

The story reports: “Court sources tell us the first time Chrystal mentioned ANYTHING about an illicit relationship was during the guardianship hearing last month … when she began ranting in court and called the guardianship lawyer a ‘moron.’"

Workman reportedly testified about a particular incident, saying: "I caught my daughter with her boyfriend in bed — she’s 14. He’s 18 and I threw him out and I broke them up."

A law enforcement source is cited as saying authorities don’t believe a sexual relationship existed between Winter and the youth.
