Web-connected televisions will reach 596 million sets worldwide by 2017, up from just 105 million at the end of 2010, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which cites a report from Digital TV Research.
China will see a huge jump in growth, with the country expected to have 93 million connected TVs by 2017, compared with just 2 million at the end of 2010.
All together, Internet-connected TVs will represent 21.4% of all television sets by 2017, up from less than 5% at the end of 2010, the piece adds. The U.S. will have the biggest penetration, at 38.1%, according to the story.
