Soon After Receiving Renewal, AMC Drama 'Hell on Wheels' Loses Showrunner THR

Just days after AMC's historical drama "Hell on Wheels" received a third-season renewal, its showrunner, John Shiban, has departed for personal reasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed.

AMC has put the show on hold while it searches for a replacement, the story adds.

"Like all of our shows, network pickups are always conditioned on an approved showrunner. We are confident that eOne and Endemol will satisfy that obligation in the near future," AMC said in a statement, referring to the program's co-producers.

Shiban has worked on the show since the first season, and was slated to take over for creators/showrunners Joe and Tony Gayton, who left after their contract wasn't picked up, the story adds. The brothers will continue to consult on the show if and when a replacement showrunner is tapped, the piece says.
