"Today" co-host Matt Lauer is under fire for a comment he made to actress Anne Hathaway about a recent wardrobe malfunction, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker.

The actress appeared Wednesday on "Today" to promote her new film "Les Miserables," and Lauer made a joke about an incident in which Hathaway was photographed getting out of a limo wearing a dress and no underwear.

"Seen a lot of you lately!" he said, according to the story.

Hathaway apologized and added, "I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants."

Lauer is receiving a backlash from his joke, with The Huffington Post writing, "Well this was not one of Matt Lauer’s finer moments."

The New York Post called Lauer’s comment a "tasteless quip."

  1. A sexist flirt. Lauer and Capus are stuck in another era. Its like they’re the Mad Men of NBC News! Please fire them!!

  2. Really, fire him?! If you’re going to fire envery anchor for a double entendre, then we will have A: no more talk shows and/or B: the most boring TV on the planet. If you can’t laugh at that or ignore it (which is an option)then plaese stop watching. And his “era” did not invent such statements nor are they the last to use them. Find something else to bitch about.

  3. If we have no more talk shows, there’ll be far, FAR more room for educational / informative programming for children, of which some people still believe there is far too little available.

Or, Ryan Seacrest could just dominate TV the way he has with radio.

  4. dont dire matt for this but fire matt just cause hes a cocky bore that we are all tired of

  5. Maybe Ms. Hathaway should step outside political correct, groupthink soundbites and pontification, and recognize the reality that those who go commando in public aren’t quite “unwilling participants” in the commodification of sexuality.

  6. Any star, going to an event to promote their film, knows that many photographers will be there shooting their every movement. If they knowingly do not put on their knickers (a great British term), they have no one to blame but themselves should their lack of knickers become known. Unless, of course, they deliberately do not wear their knickers and allow themselves to be photographed as a way of promoting either themselves or their film. We probably will never know.
