The biggest surprise at the SAG Awards was the winner of best ensemble in a drama series, with British historical drama "Downton Abbey" taking the award, reports Deadline.com.

Five of the show’s 22 cast members attended the ceremony, "and all appeared stunned," the story notes. It marked the first SAG Award for the show, which was competing against U.S. contenders such as "Homeland" and "Breaking Bad."

In other categories some previous omissions were corrected, including "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston winning his first SAG Award. Claire Danes of "Homeland" won her first SAG Award, after the show was kept out of the nominations last year, the piece notes.

On the comedy side, Alec Baldwin won his seventh consecutive SAG Award, winning the award for every season of "30 Rock," which will air its finale Thursday. The show’s creator, Tina Fey, also won, and urged viewers to watch the finale, which she noted airs against CBS’s "The Big Bang Theory."

"Just tape ‘The Big Bang Theory’ for once, for crying out loud," Fey said.

  1. It is good that 30 Rock is over. Tina and Baldwin deserved the award the first 4, maybe 5 years. But there are many other deserving actors and actresses the past few years who have been doing better work and have been overlooked.
