Fox News Slips to No. 3 in Cable Viewership for Inauguration NY Times
Ratings for President Obama's second inauguration declined significantly from four years ago, reports Bill Carter in The New York Times' Media Decoder.
CNN was the leader among the cable news networks while the oath of office was administered and Obama gave his speech, the story says. Fox News, which usually leads in ratings among cable news networks, was far behind. “That was widely expected, given the conservative political preferences of much of the Fox News audience," Carter notes.
During the oath and speech, CNN averaged 3.136 million viewers, down from 8.119 million total viewers four years ago. MSNBC was second with 2.273 million viewers and Fox was third with 1.316 million viewers. Four years ago, MSNBC and Fox News drew 3.022 million and 5.291 million viewers, respectively, for the oath and speech.
