'Idol' Feud With Mariah Carey 'Definitely Isn't Fake,' Says Nicki Minaj -- and a Recent Exchange Between Minaj and Carey May Prove Her Point Access Hollywood
Tensions between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey on “American Idol” got a lot of attention a few months back, with some skeptics saying it was all a stunt to pump up ratings.
Not so, says Minaj, Access Hollywood reports, sizing up Minaj’s comments during an appearance Monday on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”
Said Minaj: “It definitely isn’t a fake feud. ... We’re both passionate, and both crazy, and we’re both, you know. ... And then sometimes it just goes ‘rawrr!’”
Minaj said the main incident was sparked by some playful joking that went awry.
Both Minaj and Carey talked about the bad blood during an appearance last week at the Television Critics Association press tour. Answering a reporter’s question on the topic, Carey said: “I think time sorts everything. Time heals all wounds. ... I did nothing and here we are.”
Minaj told the same reporter: “We’re professionals. … Haven’t you ever had an argument with someone you worked with? I feel like people …”
Then Carey, according to the Access Hollywood account, interjected: “It was sort of a one-sided thing.” And Minaj quickly responded: “No, it wasn’t.”
