An Academy Award-winning actress has been cast to replace Rosemarie DeWitt on the HBO show "The Newsroom," reports TVLine.com. Marcia Gay Harden, who won an Oscar for best supporting actress in 2001 for “Pollock,” is joining the series.

As previously reported, HBO planned to reshoot DeWitt’s scenes after the "United States of Tara" actress left the show after shooting only a couple of episodes. Her role as recurring character Rebecca Halliday was affected by a schedule change, leaving DeWitt unable to continue in her role.

Harden will take on the role of Halliday, a litigator who defends Atlantis Cable News in a wrongful termination lawsuit. Harden has appeared in “Damages” and other television series, but may be better known for her movies, including “Miller’s Crossing” and “The First Wives Club.”
