Report: Lower-Priced iPhone in the Works From Apple

Jan 9, 2013  •  Post A Comment

A lower-priced iPhone is in the works at Apple, with a possible debut set for later this year, reports The Wall Street Journal. (Please note that the site is subscription-based, and not all readers may be able to access the story.)

The new model would be similar to the standard iPhone, but with a less expensive body, the story says. One idea being considered for lowering the cost is to use a shell made of polycarbonate plastic, instead of the aluminum housing used by the standard iPhone.

A spokeswoman for Apple declined to comment.

The move comes as Apple faces more competitive pressure to offer a lower-priced option, given cheaper rivals that use Google’s Android operating system, the story notes.
