'SNL' Actor to Fill Hasselhoff's Speedo in 'Baywatch' Adaptation TheWrap
An upcoming adaptation of the hit 1990s series “Baywatch” will feature a “Saturday Night Live” actor stepping into the role made famous by David Hasselhoff as the leader of a team of California lifeguards, TheWrap.com reports.
Bill Hader -- known for his “SNL” impressions of James Carville, Charlie Sheen, Rick Perry and others -- will try to fill Hasselhoff’s speedo in the big-screen version of the beach series. The Paramount film is a reboot of the original “Baywatch,” which also starred Pamela Anderson.
Robert Ben Garant, who co-created Comedy Central's “Reno 911!," will direct the feature. He told the website that both Hasselhoff and Anderson are slated to do cameos in the film. Instead of being played straight, as in the television show, the new "Baywatch" will be a comedy.
The movie plot has the lifeguards exploring an oil rig off the Malibu coast that turns out to be a meth lab. Ben Garant is revising drafts of the script by Jeremy Garelick and Peter Tolan. The picture is expected to begin filming in April.
Hader is currently in his eighth season on NBC’s “SNL.”
