'30 Rock' Swan Song Gets a Ratings Bump, But NBC Remains in the Cellar TVbytheNumbers

The one-hour final episode of “30 Rock” wasn’t enough to lift NBC out of the Thursday night ratings doldrums, based on Nielsen overnights. reports that “30 Rock” went out with a preliminary 1.9 average rating in the key 18-49 demo -- up a half-point from a week ago, and the show’s best number in almost a year. But NBC finished prime time overall in a tie with Univision for fourth place among the broadcast networks.

Back-to-back episodes of NBC’s “The Office” delivered a 2.1 and a 1.9 in viewers 18-49, while the premiere of drama series “Do No Harm” at 10 p.m. managed only a 0.9, finishing a distant third in the time slot behind ABC’s “Scandal” and CBS’s “Elementary.”

CBS won the night in a close race with Fox, led by “The Big Bang Theory’s” 5.3 average rating in 18-49 -- topping the first half-hour of Fox’s “American Idol” head-to-head. “Idol” was the second-highest-rated show of the night with a 4.5.

CBS also got a 3.9 average in the 18-49 demo from “Two and a Half Men” and a 3.2 for “Person of Interest,” along with a 2.2 for “Elementary.”

ABC won 10 p.m. with a 2.7 in viewers 18-49 for “Scandal” and was competitive at 9 p.m. with a 2.8 for “Grey’s Anatomy,” which trailed only “Person of Interest.”

Fox’s “Glee” tumbled a half-point from a week ago to a 2.1 in 18-49.

For prime time overall, CBS won the key 18-49 demo with a 3.4 average rating, followed by Fox (3.3), ABC (2.2), Univision (1.6) and NBC (1.6). CBS had a comfortable margin in total viewers, averaging 14.0 million to 9.6 million for Fox, 7.2 million for ABC, 4.1 million for NBC and 4.0 million for Univision.
