Makeup Artist Legend Who Created Yoda for the ‘Star Wars’ Films and the Ape-Like Creatures in ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ Dies. Model for Yoda Was Partly Himself.

A legendary makeup artist has died. He was Stuart Freeborn, who created Yoda for the Star Wars film "The Empire Strkes Back." Freeborn, 98, "died in London of a combination of ailments associated with his age, according to AP," reported Deadline.com  

The article continues, "In addition to creating Star Wars‘ Jedi master Yoda, which he modeled after Albert Einstein’s features as well as his own, Freeborn helped create Chewbacca and Jabba the Hutt as well as other iconic characters in the franchise."

The story adds, "Outside of his most famous Star Wars creations, Freeborn designed the apelike ‘Dawn Of Man’ hominids in Stanley Kubrick’s ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ and transformed Peter Sellers for "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb."
