MSNBC Names Replacement for Chris Hayes

MSNBC has named a new host for the slot being vacated by Chris Hayes, who is moving into the 8 p.m. weeknight slot. The New York Times’ Media Decoder reports that the weekend morning show “Up” will be hosted by Steve Kornacki.

The network didn’t provide a start date for Kornacki, but MSNBC has said Hayes will start in his new role on April 1. Hayes is replacing Ed Schultz in the prime-time lineup, with Schultz launching a new 5-7 p.m. weekend show.

Kornacki, 33, joined "The Cycle" last summer as co-host with three other young hosts, drawing ratings that have pleased MSNBC executives. He has also worked as a senior political writer for Salon since 2010.
