Behind-the-Scenes Shakeup for MTV Comedy

An MTV comedy has experienced turmoil behind the scenes, with the creator and executive producer leaving the project. Writing on Deadline.com, Nellie Andreeva reports that Lauren Iungerich is departing the pilot “Hot Mess.”

The network calls Iungerich’s exit a mutual agreement. Iungerich, who is committed to her MTV series "Awkward," made the decision to leave for a number of creative and private reasons, the story says.

Her departure comes as the project tested well and is said to be at the forefront of projects likely to receive a series order from the network. "Hot Mess" was putting the finishing touches on casting when MTV announced in November that Susanne Daniels would become the new head of programming, replacing David Janollari, the piece adds. ABC Family executive Mina Lefevre later came aboard as senior VP and head of scripted programming.

Andreeva writes: "I hear Daniels and Lefevre are high on ‘Hot Mess,’ especially in light of its solid testing, but they didn’t develop or cast it, so they’ve had a different take on it. I hear that, in addition to Iungerich’s exit, MTV recently released the actress who played the lead in the pilot, Annabelle Stephenson."
