MTV Names Recipient of Its First-Ever Comedic Genius Award -- The Wildly Popular Honoree Has Never Won an Emmy, Golden Globe or Oscar But Is a Box Office Powerhouse LA Times, Box Office Mojo

MTV has named the recipient of its first-ever Comedic Genius Award, with the honor going to an actor who hasn't won an Oscar, Emmy or Golden Globe -- but whose movies have brought in more than $1 billion in box office receipts.

The recipient is “Saturday Night Live” alum Will Ferrell, who will receive the award on the MTV Movie Awards on April 14, reports the Los Angeles Times' Show Tracker.

"Over the course of his extraordinary, 17-plus-year career, he has entertained audiences across the globe with an impressive array of laugh-out-loud performances on air, online and in films. Simply put, Will Ferrell is 'kind of a big deal,'" said MTV President Stephen Friedman in a statement.

Ferrell's lifetime gross total at the box office is $1.5 billion, according to Box Office Mojo. His wildly successful films have included “Anchorman,” “Elf,” “Old School,” “Talladega Nights,” “Blades of Glory” and many others.
