NBCUniversal-owned station WMAQ-TV in Chicago has named a new president and general manager. Crain’s Chicago Business reports that local TV veteran David Doebler gets the job.

Doebler has been president and GM of NBCU-owned WVIT-TV in Hartford, Conn., for the past eight years. He replaces Larry Wert, who exited his position at WMAQ to oversee local broadcast for Tribune Co.

In a statement, Valari Staab, president of the NBC Owned Television Stations, said Tuesday: "David has done a great job strengthening the competitive position of NBC Connecticut. With his leadership abilities, local broadcast experience and record of success, I am confident he has the right skills to steer WMAQ as the station continues its forward progress."
