Report: NBC Prevented ‘Today’s’ Ann Curry From Sending Well Wishes to Robin Roberts

In another embarrassing incident to see the light of day from behind the scenes of NBC’s troubled “Today” show, New York Magazine reports that the network refused to allow “Today’s” Ann Curry, who was on the way out at the time, to send well wishes to Robin Roberts of “Today” rival “Good Morning America” after word surfaced of Roberts’ latest health problem.

Curry was “gone but not gone, which created a situation of spectacular awkwardness,” the magazine reports. “Any trust that had existed between Curry and ‘Today’ was shattered. When Robin Roberts left ‘Good Morning America’ a month later to get treatment for MDS, Curry asked NBC if she could tweet a note of sympathy for the ABC co-host. NBC said no, afraid she was trying to aid the enemy.”

As has been widely covered, NBC and ABC were closely monitoring the heated ratings battle between “Today” and “GMA,” in which the advantage shifted to the ABC show last year after a long run for “Today” at No. 1.
