Cable Net Eyes Religious Dating Program NY Times
A cable network is considering a dating show that would ask congregations to find suitable partners for single church goers. The New York Times reports that the game-show focused network GSN is eyeing the format after the popularity of its "The American Bible Challenge."
"American Bible Challenge" first aired this season and is already in a second go-round. But GSN cautioned that the network isn't planning to be dominated by religious programming, according to the piece.
“We still need to be a broad-based channel,” said Amy Introcaso-Davis, a GSN executive.
That means the network will continue to air secular shows such as "Family Feud" and "Minute to Win It." But "The American Bible Challenge" has helped GSN gain a foothold among viewers interested in religious-themed programming.
That has helped GSN's ratings gain traction among viewers 18-49 and 25-54.
The church-based dating show would be called "It Takes a Church," and would be an hourlong updated version of how "the ladies of the church are always trying to fix up the few single” parishioners, Introcaso-Davis said, according to the story.
