CNN Wins Sunday Prime Among Cable News Channels as New Show Debuts to Strong Numbers Deadline

A new CNN program bowed Sunday night to strong numbers, pushing the channel to a ratings win among cable news channels. Deadline.com reports that "Parts Unknown," which features celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, attracted 747,000 viewers in its 9 p.m. time slot.

That represents a surge of 62% over the network's year-to-date Sunday averages, the piece says. In the key demo of viewers 25-54, the show drew 282,000 viewers, a 120% increase.

The “Parts Unknown” debut pushed CNN, which has struggled in the ratings, to No. 1 for prime time Sunday among the cable news channels. CNN averaged 208,000 viewers for prime time in the 25-54 demo, topping MSNBC (160,000) and Fox News Channel (141,000), the story reports.

The first episode featured Bourdain in Myanmar, and future shows will track him visiting Libya, Canada, Peru and Los Angeles' Koreatown.
