Drama Series Remains in Limbo

The future of a cable drama series remains uncertain, after the show wrapped production six months ago and aired the finale for its second season more than a month ago. Nellie Andreeva writes on Deadline.com that ABC Family’s teen-focused "The Lying Game" remains in limbo, with the network contemplating its future.

"Complicating things is the fact that the options on the cast are up this week,” Andreeva writes. “I hear ABC Family asked ‘The Lying Game’ producer Warner Horizon to extend the options on cast as the cable network wants to see how its summer series launch before making a decision on ‘The Lying Game.’ That is easier said than done as the extension process involves a slew of actors with virtually no assurances that the extra hold will lead to a renewal."

The initial offer from Warner Horizon was rejected by the actors, but now lead actress Alexandra Chando has signed and Blair Redford is in negotiations. The other actors are in discussions, the story notes.

Andreeva adds, "But as frustrating [as] ABC Family’s silence has been for ‘The Lying Game’ team, they are not alone. Also anxiously awaiting word on renewal is fellow bubble series ‘Bunheads’ whose freshman season ended more than two months ago. ABC Family will likely make a decision on both series around the same time."
