Seth MacFarlane Condemns Videos Tying ‘Family Guy’ to Boston Marathon Attack

Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Fox’s "Family Guy," called videos connecting the animated show to the Boston Marathon bombing "abhorrent," according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed. The videos have been characterized as a hoax.

The videos have been making the rounds online, and include clips edited from the "Turban Cowboy" episode, which aired March 17. The scene ends with Peter Griffin accidentally blowing up a bridge by calling a terrorist’s mobile phone.

In the videos, the mobile phone scene is edited so that it happens after an unrelated scene from the episode in which Bob Costas, playing himself in the show, asks Peter how he won the Boston Marathon, the story says.

"The edited ‘Family Guy’ clip currently circulating is abhorrent," MacFarlane wrote on Twitter. "The event was a crime and a tragedy, and my thoughts are with the victims."

Fox also pulled the entire "Turban Cowboy" episode from online sites such as Fox.com and Hulu after the videos surfaced, reports EW.com’s Inside TV.

The clip has appeared on YouTube in multiple posts, but in most cases has quickly been pulled from the site. A disclaimer noting a copyright claim by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios appeared on at least one such post.

Other YouTube videos have also appeared addressing the alleged “Family Guy” connection to the marathon bombing, and refuting the characterization of the videos as a hoax.
