Fox’s “American Idol” showed signs of life in the Wednesday ratings, based on Nielsen overnights, while another unscripted show lost ground. TVbytheNumbers.com reports that CBS’s “Survivor” equaled its all-time low in the key 18-49 demo.

“Idol’s” two-hour installment delivered a 3.2 average rating in viewers 18-49, rising just a bit — one-tenth of a ratings point — from last week. That was good enough to give Fox a win for prime time overall.

“Survivor: Caramoan” settled for a 2.4 in the 18-49 demo, off one-tenth from a week ago and equaling the series’ all-time low. CBS’s dramas were up: “Criminal Minds” rose two-tenths to a 3.0, while “CSI” climbed three-tenths to a 2.4.

ABC was paced by “Modern Family,” which turned in a 3.8 average in 18-49 to come in as the top show of the night on broadcast — even though that number was off four-tenths from last week. The new comedy “How to Live with Your Parents” lost four-tenths from last week’s premiere to bring in a 2.5.

Elsewhere on ABC, “The Middle” held steady with a 2.0 in adults 18-49, “Suburgatory” dipped one-tenth to a 1.7 and “Nashville” ticked up one-tenth to a 1.8.

NBC aired repeats of “Hannibal” and “Law & Order: SVU,” while a fresh installment of “Dateline” managed a 1.2 average in 18-49, losing two-tenths from a week ago.

For prime time overall, Fox’s 3.2 average in 18-49 led the way, followed by CBS (2.6 average), ABC (2.3), Univision (1.6) and NBC (1.0). Fox also led total viewers with 12.0 million, followed by CBS (10.5 million), ABC (7.1 million), NBC (4.1 million) and Univision (3.8 million).
