NBC’s "Smash" has been given a last-minute reprieve from its Saturday night time slot. The show’s second-season finale will be moved to a Sunday slot, reports EW.com’s Inside TV.
NBC, which recently relegated the struggling musical drama to Saturdays in a move from its Tuesday time period, said the show’s two-hour season finale will air Sunday, May 26, at 9 p.m. ET. The finale might also serve as the show’s series finale.
"While ‘Smash’ fans may take this as an encouraging sign, don’t be fooled — ‘Smash’s’ dismal ratings, coupled with its sky-high budget, all but ensure a cancellation," the story says.
why is it that great shows like this get canceled. I am beginning to believe that 12 years olds are determining whats “popular” and what isnt. EVERYONE I know loves this show and was stunned to see it canceled. I just don’t get it. I think these rating things are wrong. I look at the top 10 or 20 and I watch a fraction of those shows.
Part of the problem is the network playing “musical chairs” with the show. I for one enjoy it — but it seems from week to week I have no idea when it airs! And, TV execs have no idea how to market something theatre- based. There is a definite audience for SMASH –and given the chance, it is one of the most loyal of audiences – likely because we theatre people don’t get a whole lot on TV that recognizes what we enjoy.
Season 1 of smash is wonderful, season 2 ruined everything. Too many new, uninteresting characters, plot changes and focus on these are to blame. Hope Stephen Spielberg will somehow right all the wrong season 2 ideas.
