Video: Basketball Analyst's Race-Oriented Remark Sets Off Firestorm TheWrap

CBS basketball analyst Doug Gottlieb, described as the only non-African-American sitting on the network's panel analyzing its Sweet 16 coverage, set off a Twitter firestorm over the weekend when he said he was there to offer "a white man's perspective," reports TheWrap.com.

"I'm just here to bring diversity to the set, give the kind of white man's perspective," he said to his four co-panelists. His comment was received with "awkward laughter," the story notes.

Twitter followers said the joke was inappropriate, and Gottlieb apologized. "It was not a smart thing to say and I apologize," he said, according to the story.

He got some defense from panelist Charles Barkley, who said, "He made a joke earlier tonight and people are going crazy. All those idiots on Twitter, which I would never ever do, all you people at home who've got no life and are talking bad about Doug Gottlieb, get a life. It's over with. It's no big deal."
