Why Ellen DeGeneres and Her Longtime Manager Have Parted Ways

Popular daytime television host Ellen DeGeneres has parted ways with her longtime manager, who was credited with helping her stage a comeback after her sitcom was canceled in 1998, reports Nikki Finke at Deadline.com.

DeGeneres had asked for an agreement to "cap" Eric Gold’s earnings — putting a maximum amount on his earnings from DeGeneres — but Gold declined the offer, the story reports.

DeGeneres has reportedly earned about half a billion dollars from her 10-year-old syndicated daytime talk show "Ellen," as well as endorsements (such as her deal with J.C. Penney) and other activities, the story notes.

Some claim that Gold didn’t help make "Ellen" better, in that he didn’t deliver guests and wasn’t on set, the story says. But others say he deserves credit for helping DeGeneres bounce back in a big way after her ABC comedy series ended.
