CBS will give a series order to a new comedy from Chuck Lorre, reports Nellie Andreeva at Deadline.com. The order for “Mom” is expected today, the piece reports.

It’s the network’s first pilot from this year’s development to receive a series order, with CBS picking it up a full week before its upfront presentation.

"A select few A-list producers get early pickup deadlines from the networks, giving them a window to shop the projects elsewhere if they get a pass. Lorre understandably is in that category with an unusually early deadline for ‘Mom’ this year even by those standards," Andreeva writes.

Still, there wasn’t much doubt that CBS would pick up the project, given that it had a hot script and a cast led by Anna Faris and Allison Janney. The finished pilot was also well received, the piece notes.

The series, from Warner Bros. TV, is about a newly single mother, played by Faris, who is getting back on her feet in California’s Napa Valley. It may end up in the Monday 8:30 p.m. time slot.
