Nat Geo Casts Its JFK and Jackie THR
An actor who is a household name will play President John F. Kennedy, while a less well-known actress -- but one with her own credentials in both TV and features -- will play Jackie Kennedy in Nat Geo’s upcoming adaptation of Bill O’Reilly’s “Killing Kennedy,” The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports.
Rob Lowe will play JFK, while Ginnifer Goodwin -- best known for “Big Love” and for feature films including “Something Borrowed” and “He’s Just Not That Into You” -- will play Jackie Kennedy, the piece reports.
Also on board is Michelle Trachtenberg, who will play Marina Oswald.
In a statement today announcing the castings, National Geographic Channels President Howard T. Owens said: “We are thrilled to be working with Rob Lowe, Ginnifer Goodwin and Michelle Trachtenberg, three gifted artists who have responded to this timely, authentic and entertaining material. With ‘Killing Kennedy,’ timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK, National Geographic Channel continues to bring daring, culturally significant television events to our growing global audience.”
THR notes: “The drama marks the latest adaptation from Bill O'Reilly's collection of best-sellers, and comes three months after ‘Killing Lincoln’ premiered to 3.4 million viewers. Production will begin in June in Richmond, Va., when Lowe and Goodwin are on hiatus from NBC's ‘Parks and Recreation’ and ABC's ‘Once Upon a Time,’ respectively.”
Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions is producing, with Nelson McCormick (“The Good Wife”) set to direct.
