Surprise Twist Behind the Scenes at NBC’s ‘Community’

A surprising turn of events is being reported in the saga of the NBC comedy series “Community.” The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the show’s creator, Dan Harmon, is in talks to return to the show, just a year after studio Sony Pictures Television fired him.

It’s not clear in what capacity he would return, although he’s discussing some part in the show’s fifth season with Sony Pictures TV, the piece reports. He broke the news during his Harmontown podcast Sunday, according to the blog HollyWookiee, which attended the podcast.

Harmon asked that the news be edited out of the podcast, but then added, "I don’t care who knows," the blog says. The podcast hasn’t yet been released online, THR reports.

As previously reported, Harmon was fired last May as showrunner, writing in a candid blog post, "I’m not saying you can’t make a good version of ‘Community’ without me, but I am definitely saying that you can’t make my version of it unless I have the option of saying ‘it has to be like this or I quit’ roughly 8 times a day."

Harmon had a reportedly turbulent time on the show and had feuded with co-star Chevy Chase.

Some critics complained that the fourth season of the show, which was overseen by two new showrunners, had lost its edge without Harmon, THR reports.
