"The Colbert Report" returned to air on Wednesday after an unexpected hiatus due to the death of host Stephen Colbert’s mother, reports The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed.

Colbert’s mother died June 12, and last Thursday’s episode was canceled at the last minute. New episodes had originally been scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, but were replaced with repeats.

Colbert previously canceled episodes of the Comedy Central show in February 2012 to take care of his mother, who at the time was reportedly ill.

  1. On the day I learned of her death, I (more clumsily than he, surely) made the points he did in his tribute to her: “If you like me, then that’s because of my mom…” [paraphrasing]
Mrs. Colbert didn’t raise anyone but a genius and a true class act in Stephen Colbert; this nation, and indeed the world, owes her much.
