DirecTV Hounding Colorado Fire Victim for $400

DirecTV is demanding $400 from a victim of a Colorado fire, who lost everything Tuesday in the state’s destructive wildfire, reports the Colorado Springs Gazette.

After Jeremy Beach lost his home in Black Forest, he started calling utilities and providers to cancel services to a house that doesn’t exist. He had no problem with canceling trash pickup, utilities and other services, until he got to DirecTV, the story says.

They told him he would owe $400 for a satellite dish and two receivers that were destroyed in the fire.

"I couldn’t believe it," he told the publication. "I had lost everything and they acted like they could care less."

Beach, who escaped the fire with his wife, who is 37 weeks pregnant with twins, his 5-year-old son and two dogs, said he needs the money to buy new "cups, plates, shoes, a new bike for my kid. I got so angry I had to hang up."

Many companies write off losses sustained by fires.

DirecTV previously told the newspaper that it was still charging fire victims because the victims’ insurance wouldn’t cover the cost of its equipment. The company didn’t respond to requests for comment Thursday, the publication said.

The fire, which is raging close to Colorado Springs, has burned more than 16,000 acres and destroyed 360 homes, according to CNN.

  1. No surprise there–the weasels at Directionless TV are money-grubbing jerks, and the service is less than poor. My complaint with them is based on a litany of excuses, errors and ultimately a “final bill” that I paid and moved on to a better TV service. Get your blood money, clowns, and rot in hell.
