FX has canceled a show soon after the finale of its second season. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the cable channel pulled the plug on comedian Russell Brand’s late-night talk show "Brand X with Russell Brand."

"Brand X" ran for two seasons on the network as a weekly talk show, with its season finale airing May 2. The show was retooled after its first eight episodes, the piece notes.

FX will continue to work with Brand on a scripted live-action comedy, the story reports.

The new project is based on Brand’s life and is in the early stages of development. FX Networks CEO John Landgraf likened the project to Larry David’s "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

The story adds: “There is good news for FX’s other late-night effort: ‘Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell’ will switch from a weekly to daily format come September when it moves to comedy-centric network FXX at the September launch.”

Landgraf said of Bell’s politically oriented show: "We saw more potential and upside in audience response."
