ABC Family Cancels Series LA Times

ABC Family has canceled a low-rated drama series. The Los Angeles Times' Show Tracker reports that the cable channel made the decision to pull the plug on "Bunheads."

Despite its low viewer numbers, the show had a passionate following of fans and critics who had urged the network to give it a second season. The drama ended its 18-episode first season in February, and fans held onto hope that it would earn a renewal given the length of time ABC Family took to decide its fate.

The show, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino of "Gilmore Girls," starred Sutton Foster as a Las Vegas chorus girl who moves to a small town to teach ballet.

"The series had amazing storytelling, the most talented cast and a passionate and loyal fan base. Recognizing all of this, we took extra time to try and find ways to bring the series back for another season, but in the end it simply wasn’t possible," the network said in a statement.
