"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" director Timur Bekmambetov has joined a miniseries project that re-creates "The Wizard of Oz" in a post-apocalyptic future, reports Deadline.com.

Called "The Warriors of Oz," the Syfy project features a warrior from present-day Earth who is sent into a future Oz, where he works with three other warriors (Heartless, Brainless and Coward) to take down the evil Wizard, the story says. Bekmambetov will executive produce and potentially direct, while the project from Universal Cable Productions is searching for a writer.

The project is part of Syfy’s efforts to create more miniseries, with a project based on Larry Niven’s "Ringworld" also in the works.

  1. I hope that someone with rights to OZ will put an end to this disaster before they get going.
