‘Big Brother’ Houseguests in Hot Water

Three "Big Brother’ houseguests got in trouble after the CBS show’s live feed captured them uttering offensive statements, with the comments by the three cast members prompting reactions from their employers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Contestant Spencer Clawson, 31, made comments that included gay slurs, praised Hitler as a gifted speaker and used the C-word, sparking his employer, Union Pacific Railroad, to issue a statement distancing itself from his remarks.

"The values represented by Spencer Clawson’s comments during the ‘Big Brother’ show do not at all align with Union Pacific’s values. Mr. Clawson is on unpaid leave of absence while participating on ‘Big Brother.’ Union Pacific does not condone his comments," the company said in a statement.

Two other houseguests have seen their professional careers take a hit after insensitive comments were recorded. Aaryn Gries was dropped by modeling agency Zephyr Talent, while GinaMarie Zimmerman was fired as an employee at East Coast USA Pageant, the story notes.

CBS responded to the comments last week, as previously reported, indicating it did not condone the houseguests’ comments.

  1. This has to stop. We are suppose to be a fredom of speach country. Come on people!! What company is going to fire a diffrent race person for refering to a white person as cracker or snowball. It is time to get over it by now!!

  2. And in America, we have the freedom to voice our opinion, even when our comments have numerous misspellings! Tom, your argument is watered down

  3. You got to be kidding me. Employers have every right to fire any employee who violates company standards for such areas as equality and decency. Freedom of speech does not mean you can say whatever you want anywhere and everywhere and not also be held responsible for the consequences, both civil and criminal. That’s why there are, for example, laws against defamation. Your example of a black person making an anti-white statement is irrelevant because it is hypothetical and we have not seen it happen among the contestants. But the ones who got fired made clearly offensive statements that are as real as the chair you are sitting in.
