A high-profile politician who was forced out of office by a scandal and then went into television is planning a return to politics. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eliot Spitzer, who resigned as New York governor amidst a prostitution scandal, is readying his next political move.

Spitzer, who spent the past three years hosting shows for CNN and Current TV, has announced he’s running for the office of city comptroller for New York City.

“I’m hopeful there will be forgiveness; I am asking for it,” Spitzer told The New York Times in an interview.

His re-entry to politics comes at a time when other disgraced public office holders, such as Rep. Mark Sanford of South Carolina, have overcome scandals involving their personal or sexual conduct, The Times notes.
