One of the producers of Showtime’s drama series "Ray Donovan" has pleaded guilty in a case stemming from a huge FBI investigation and tied to the Russian mob. Deadline.com reports that executive producer Bryan Zuriff pleaded guilty to running an illegal gambling operation.

Zuriff entered the plea just days after Showtime picked up the drama for a second season, the story notes. According to a statement from U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, Zuriff faces up to five years in prison and has agreed to forfeit $500,000 as part of a plea deal.

"Bryan Zuriff spanned the coasts with his crimes, by operating his own illegal gambling enterprise in Los Angeles, and helping to operate a vast illegal gambling enterprise in New York,” Bharara said. “With his plea, he becomes the first defendant, but not the last, to be convicted in this sprawling script of criminal conduct.”

As we reported back in April, Zuriff was one of 34 people charged in connection with the alleged gambling ring as a result of a massive FBI investigation.
