Pay-cable channel Showtime announced the renewal of a drama series. USA Today reports that the channel ordered a second season of "Ray Donovan," which stars Liev Schreiber as the title character.

The renewal comes just a few weeks after the program’s debut June 30.

The show’s storyline has Donovan, a "fixer" for a big law firm, moving to Los Angeles from South Boston after his criminal father is released from jail, as a way to protect his family. The show opened as Showtime’s highest-rated premiere, while the initial airing of its third episode on Sunday drew 2.2 million viewers, according to the report.

"’Ray Donovan’ is on track to be our biggest season one show ever," Showtime Entertainment President David Nevins said in a statement.
