"Google is rolling out a revamped version of its popular Maps application for Apple’s iOS, highlighted by dedicated support for the iPad tablet," reports FierceMobileContent.

The article continues: "The new Google Maps for iOS 2.0, also optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch, comes roughly seven months after Google launched the first iteration of the app. Last year, Apple dumped built-in Google Maps support with the release of its iOS 6 platform update, introducing its own Apple Maps platform as a replacement. Google quickly responded to the move by developing a standalone Google Maps app for iOS users, but didn’t initially support the iPad and iPad mini form factors."

The story adds: "Google introduced a similar Maps update for its own Android mobile operating system last week. Google Maps is the second most popular mobile application among U.S. consumers across all platforms, trailing only Facebook, according to a recent comScore Mobile Metrix report."
