It wasn’t all that long ago that its chief rival, NBC’s "Today" show, was the one chalking up a string of ratings victories, so ABC’s "Good Morning America" is putting the word out about its own achievement in the morning ratings wars: "GMA" has now been the No. 1 program in total viewers for a solid year, racking up 52 consecutive weeks in first place.

"GMA" topped "Today" by 808,000 total viewers for the week of Aug. 12, capping off its longest stretch at No. 1 in more than 21 years, since before the start of the 1991-92 season, according to data from Nielsen Media Research.

"GMA" senior executive producer Tom Cibrowski told his staff: “Because of your incredible work, ‘Good Morning America’ has been #1 in Total Viewers for one entire year. It is an amazing accomplishment and a fantastic ride. We are also extremely grateful to the viewers who tune in every morning, and now it’s up to us to keep going. We are only just beginning.”

ABC said in its announcement: "During the week, ‘GMA’ outdrew NBC’s ‘Today’ (4.270 million and 1.703 million, respectively) by +808,000 Total Viewers and by +199,000 Adults 25-54. In fact, ‘GMA’ more than tripled its Total Viewer advantage (+217%) over the No. 2-ranked ‘Today’ show compared to its lead on the same week last year (+255,000 on w/o 8/12/13)."

The announcement adds: "Season-to-date, ‘GMA’ has turned in its most number of No. 1 finishes in both Total Viewers (46 of 46 weeks) and Adults 25-54 (38 of 46 weeks) during a television season in more than 21 years — since before the 1991-92 season; Nielsen’s electronic database started on September of 1991."
