Broadcasting Legend Vin Scully Commits to Another Season at the Mic LA Times
Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully will return as the announcer of Los Angeles Dodgers baseball games in 2014, marking his 65th season with the team, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Scully, 85, is re-upping on a year-to-year basis, the story notes. That's because "he respects his audience too much to mumble around a microphone the way Willie Mays stumbled around center field for the New York Mets, in a sad close to a brilliant career," the piece reports.
Scully told the newspaper, "I really still enjoy it immensely. My health is good, thank God. So why not? And my wife said, 'Why not?'"
"Just the thought of walking away from it to retirement -- and looking out the window or something? It's just too good. As a baseball man, and someone who has always loved the game, the situation and the conditions are perfect," Scully said.
