Former Disney Star Commits Suicide TMZ
A rising star who broke out on the Disney Channel before going on to a successful career as a television actor has committed suicide, TMZ.com reports.
The publicist for Lee Thompson Young, 29, confirmed the actor's death today, telling the website: "It is with great sadness that I announce that Lee Thompson Young tragically took his own life this morning ... Lee was more than just a brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will be truly missed."
Young surfaced as the title character in Disney's "The Famous Jett Jackson," which aired from 1998-2001. He has been a regular on "Rizzoli & Isles," playing Det. Barry Frost, and gained attention as running back Chris Comer in the 2004 movie "Friday Night Lights."
Young reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
"We're told when he didn't show up to work this morning, staffers called the landlord of Young's L.A. home to check up on the actor," TMZ reports. "We're told ... when the landlord opened the door, he discovered Young's body."
Young also appeared in guest roles on a number of TV shows, including "CSI: NY," "Scrubs" and "Smallville."
