Why ‘The Hobbit’ Director Peter Jackson Won’t Be Directing ‘Doctor Who’

Rumors that "The Hobbit" director Peter Jackson would be taking on an episode of "Doctor Who" spread around the Internet over the weekend, but the story has no truth to it, reports Mike Fleming Jr. at Deadline.com.

"I can tell you with 100% certainty that there are no plans for Jackson to do any such thing," Fleming writes.

The rumor started because Jackson, a huge fan of the series, has an open-ended invitation to helm an episode of the cult sci-fi series, but discussions haven’t moved beyond that, Fleming writes.

"The director is completely engrossed in the second and third installments of ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy, and he will not be emerging from Middle Earth for the better part of two years," the story notes.

  1. Hey, the Doctor is a Time Lord – he’ll still be around if or when Jackson frees up his schedule.
