The parents of Michael J. Fox’s character on the upcoming NBC comedy series "The Michael J. Fox Show" will be played by a pair of veteran TV and film actors. EW.com reports that Candice Bergen and Charles Grodin will play Fox’s parents.

The show is one of the most eagerly anticipated programs of the fall season.

Bergen, an Oscar nominee for the 1979 movie "Starting Over," starred in the long-running CBS sitcom “Murphy Brown,” earling a string of awards for her performance including five Emmy Awards for outstanding lead actress in a comedy, from 1989-1995. More recently she appeared on ABC’s “Boston Legal” — earning Emmy nominations in 2006 and 2008 for her supporting role on the show.

Grodin is known for his work in films including “Heaven Can Wait,” “Midnight Run” and the “Beethoven” movies. He guest-starred on “Law & Order: SVU” last year, and is an Emmy winner as part of the writing team behind the 1977 NBC production "The Paul Simon Special." He was nominated for a Golden Globe for "The Heartbreak Kid" in 1973.
