Justin Timberlake canceled his Monday performance on NBC’s "Tonight Show" amid reports that the singer wasn’t feeling well. But Deadline.com reported Monday that there might have been another reason for his cancellation.

"Earlier in the day, another source said tonight’s Timberlake performance may have been scrubbed to ensure maximum impact tomorrow night, when the pop star is scheduled to perform a free concert on Hollywood Blvd. compliments of ABC’s competing late-night show ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live,’" the Deadline piece reports.

Timberlake kept his commitment to sit down on "The Tonight Show," but didn’t perform. During the appearance he talked about being sick and being on an "antibiotic cocktail." (See video below.)

Kimmel shut down Hollywood Boulevard on Monday night to feature a free concert by Paul McCartney, according to KTLA.com. Timberlake was scheduled to perform tonight, Tuesday.

Here’s a little of Timberlake on NBC’s "Tonight Show" Monday night:
