Digital Buzz for New Fall Shows: One Series Is Off the Charts

One upcoming fall broadcast series is blowing away its rivals in terms of online buzz. Whether the buzz will translate into TV success remains to be seen, but Deadline.com reports that ABC’s "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." has surpassed 1 million Facebook fans — believed to be a record for a new show ahead of its premiere.

In general the new fall shows with the biggest Facebook followings are those that are offshoots or expansions of pre-existing franchises, which may help explain why networks are eager to cultivate such programs.

The CW’s "The Originals," a spinoff of "The Vampire Diaries," is the second most popular new series on Facebook, with more than 500,000 fans, Deadline reports. The third most popular new show on Facebook is ABC’s "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland," an offshoot of "Once." The latter has just under 500,000 fans.
